Clash of the Cafs

By Lauren Somers Alright everyone, let’s settle this debate. Which is better: Huffman or Curtis? The March 2017 survey asked the question: “Where is the best place to eat on campus?” and included options for Curtis, Huffman, Slayter, and “My Room.” Due to new regulations, Slayter is not on the menu for 2018. The result…

Still In For Public Service in the Trump Era?

[Cover image: This is Denison graduate Ben Hobbs who now works for the Domestic Policy Council, which is the primary domestic policy review and advising body of the Executive Office of the President in the Trump White House. It’s a high honor to work there and we’re proud of Ben for this achievement.] By Paul…

Partisanship at Denison, 2010-2018

By Paul A. Djupe The 2016 elections were remarkable for many things, but one of which was the huge gulf separating college-educated voters from those with less education. Until 2016, the two groups had basically tracked together, but significantly parted ways over Trump. What have partisan trends looked like among the aspiring-to-be-college-educated voters on campus?…

Denison Trump Approval UP Slightly at the 2018 Midterms

By Paul A. Djupe Can you believe it has been more than 2 years of the Trump Administration? There is so much that has happened to the US and world in that time that it’s hard to remember it all. Oliver Gladfelter told me to jettison my outrageously short list of what this administration has…

Denison 2018 Midterm Voter Turnout!

By Paul A. Djupe The polls just closed in Ohio and everyone is excited to know what we think the vote looked like among Denison students. We are just wrapping up our poll of students this semester (~530 responded) and are taking a quick look on election eve. Overall, student voter interest was down from…

Choose a Major, Plug Into Life

By Paul A. Djupe It must be so annoying to get The Question all the time. Every family gathering, I recall, was peppered with it, people pestering you probably because they didn’t know what else to ask. “So what’s your major?” is arguably one of the lesser questions about your four years in college. At…

Good Friends or Best Friends? How many People Can Men and Women at Denison Rely on for Support?

By Lauren Somers Over the past couple years that One Twenty Seven has been rockin’ and rollin’, we have been interested in the way that social support affects students. In 2016 we looked at who feels social support the most: by class year, income disparities, general involvement, and greek life involvement. We then looked at…

How Many Denisonians Register to Vote in Ohio?

By Paul A. Djupe Happy National Voter Registration Day! Are you registered to vote? At home or here in Granville? I hope that it goes without saying that voting is a critical act of taking a stake in the future of the US and expressing who you are (if you’re a citizen). While all elections…

Quad Up! Binge Drinking Across the Quads

By Lauren Somers One of the most interesting topics that we explore on 127, in my opinion, is binge drinking on campus. In previous posts, we have covered the racial discrepancies in binge drinking as well as the perception of binge drinking rates on campus. We also covered Greek-affiliated binge drinking and how this affects…

A Personality Profile for the Liberal Arts

Is there a right personality for liberal arts? Does Denison shape personalities?

127 :: Year TWO :: A Retrospective

By Paul A. Djupe and The Oliver Gladfelter Another year has passed, meaning OneTwentySeven will be turning two years old soon. OneTwentySeven was founded under a set of related goals: provide reliable information about the student body, contribute quantitative context to campus debates, and – perhaps above all – improve our understanding of the mini-society…
